At one time, the almost endless Bourtanger Moor, the largest moor in northwestern Europe, lay here. The more than 2,000-hectare area is now protected, and the last remnant of the living upland moor is located here.
The largest sheepfold in the Netherlands is also located in Bargerveen, right next to the "Wollegras" restaurant. You can watch as the herd is brought into the pasture every morning and returns with the shepherd in the evening. An impressive sight!
