Restruper Hünengrab – Börstel Monastery
Stage 6
Halfway along this day stage from Restruper Hünegrab to Börstel Monastery lies probably the most special megalithic grave on the Hünenweg. The Hekeser Hünengrab. This 53-metre-long megalithic site remains an enigma and is preserved almost in its entirety.
Order the 2nd edition of the Hünenweg hiking guide from Conrad Stein Verlag. On 127 pages you will find detailed information about your hike from Osnabrück to Groningen.
Shortly before the mountains, you will arrive at a Bronze Age grave, the Dreihügel-Heiligtum (Shrine of the Three Mounds). It is believed that the final resting place of a tribal leader is located there.
Your route will take you further into Börsteler Wald (Börstel Forest), which rises like an island from the otherwise flat lowlands. Located in its centre is the Cistercian monastery, Börstel Monastery, on the northernmost edge of Osnabrück.
